Just back from a 10 night vacation in Hilo, Hawaii. This is the send-off view the last morning. What a great start to a very long day of traveling. The weather forecast before we left was gloomy — rain every day except the first Saturday and Sunday. The first couple of days were misty, but the sun came out all the rest of the time, barring a few rain showers up in the mountains. This photo is taken from our lanai, which faced NW toward Mauna Kea and Hilo Bay. Days were in the 80’s. The slider doors were open any time we were in the room. Our only visitors were a couple of birds looking for food.
I’m still processing the processing the images. I wanted to travel light, so I picked up a little Nikon Coolpix W150. In theory it’s great — 13 mg and waterproof — but in practice, it doesn’t shoot raw and the sensor is so small that some of the details are lost. But it slipped inside my carry on easily, being so tiny — and that was my main goal. The images bring back good memories.
